Why do I get a Beta Code - Root element missing error when trying to send a file to VectorCUT®?

This is most likely a permissions issue related to newer versions of Windows. VectorCUT® 1.0 was developed for Windows XP, and the security architecture in Windows 7, 8 and 10 has changed creating this error message. There are 2 ways to solve the problem.

1. Launch VectorCUT® as an administrator.

  1. To do this, browse to the install directory for VectorCUT® (typically c:\program files(x86)\VectorX Software\VectorCut) then right click on the VectorCutUI.exe file and select ‘Run as Administrator’ from the menu.
  2. This should open VectorCUT® without the Beta code error.
  3. Once VectorCUT® is opened, you can import your cut file using the file import feature.
  4. If you still experience the Beta Code error, you will need to reinstall VectorCUT®.

2. Uninstall VectorCUT® 1.0

  1. Please go to the Windows Control Panel/Programs and Features and uninstall VectorCUT® 1.0 or VectorCUT® 2.0.
  2. Next, verify that VectorCUT® 1.0 has been fully removed from the Windows directory by opening Windows Explorer and browse to C:/Program Files(x86)/VectorX and verify there is no folder named VectorX Software.
  3. While in the directory, browse to the Windows/Downloads folder and delete theVectorCut2Setup folder as well.
  4. VectorCUT® should now be completely removed from your system. You are now ready to reinstall VectorCUT® 1.0.

3. Install VectorCUT® 1.0 or VectorCUT® 2.0

  1. Please go to the CadworxLIVE® homepage and select SUPPORT/Downloads link. This opens the Downloads page where you will find the links to download VectorCUT® 1.0 (Vista and Windows XP) and VectorCUT® 2.0 (Windows 7-10)
  2. Select the appropriate version of VectorCUT® for your version of Windows and download.
  3. After installation, open VectorCUT® by selecting the desktop icon and select your cutter from the Cutter pulldown list. If your cutter is not listed, select the Universal HPGL as your cutter.
  4. Next, select the Properties button. Select the appropriate connection for how you are connected to the cutter. Majority of connections are by USB cable which is the Printer Port selection. Then in the Name pulldown list, select your cutter and select OK.
  5. The computer should now communicate with the cutter. (Note: if your cutter is not listed in the pulldown list, your cutters driver may not be installed. Make sure you have them installed before continuing!)
  6. Once installed, your cutter should be available in the pulldown list. At this time you will want to make a small test cut file to verify the connection.
