Design Studio 2.2 does not read/import Adobe Illustrator .pdf files correctly. Below is the work around for this issue...
Import the Adobe Illustrator pdf... It will import, it just previews as transparent. Highlight the transparent file and select wireframe mode so that you can see the file.
Next, with the file still highlighted, select Break Apart by Region
Next, marquee select (click and drag cursor to highlight entire file), colorize the file, then turn off wireframe mode. The file should now be filled with your color choice.
Next, marquee select the entire file and the select Shaping/Combine.
The file should now be completed.
